About

Who We Are

We are two thirty-something-years-old full time engineers who took on a new year’s resolution to eat healthier and to save money on eating out. In 2019 we spent over $13,000 on eating out and agreed we need to change our habits. What started as a new years resolution turned into much needed skills as COVID-19 forced us all inside and closed our favorite restaurants. Since then, we’ve grown our culinary adventurous spirit and wanted to stretch ourselves by signing up for a local CSA. In the past we’ve joined CSAs and watched our food go to waste. Not This Year! We’ve started this blog to share our journey to finish the CSA box and hopefully inspire others to eat healthier and save money.

What’s a CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. The idea is you prepay for a share of the farm’s crops and you receive regular boxes of farm fresh produce! This way, your local farm receives a guaranteed amount of income, and you eat healthy! Added benefits include reducing the pollution associated with the transporting of produce, supporting your local businesses, trying vegetables and fruits you may not have been aware of, and of course a strengthen flexible culinary skill set.

The terms of each CSA can be different. Generally, you pay a fixed amount at the start of the season, and then a predetermined box of veggies through the spring, summer, and fall. However, many farms are now allowing for flexible CSA options, where you pick what you want each week, up to a certain monetary limit or via a gift card balance. Some will even let you roll over balances to the following year! You’ll want to check the terms of the CSAs in your area to find the one that will best suit you.

CSA’s are easy to find online. Just do a ‘CSAs near me’ search in your favorite web search engine and let the adventure begin!
